Testing timesWhat a difficult few weeks it seems to have been, for everyone. The weather is mostly miserable, the world seems a very sad place, and not one person I’ve spoken to in recent days seems to be having it easy… It seems that a lot of us could do with a pick me up. With that in mind, I’m planning a little evening retreat for a small group of women. You’ll wear your cosiest outfit and drift away as we take part in a relaxing meditation to soothing sounds. Amid twinkling fairy lights and candles, you’ll enjoy a warm drink and a chance to truly switch off. You’ll leave feeling super relaxed, warm and happy. Sound good? If you’re local/commutable to Norfolk, you can join the waitlist here. Details are being finalised and will be released to the waitlist who will have first opportunity to book at a discounted rate. And if you’re less local, my main retreat, happening next year, is booking now too.
GuiltThis week I’ve spoken to a lot of women who feel guilty about things. Guilty for not prioritising themselves. Guilty for prioritising themselves. Guilty for working too much. Guilty for not working enough. You get the picture… and it took me back to a time in my life where I had a new baby. In my NCT group of 6 new Mums, we all did different things when it was “time” to return to work. Two went back to work full time. Two part time. One went self employed. One became a stay-at-home Mum. And guess what we all had in common? Yep – we all felt guilty for those choices. Guilty for being around too much – how will they learn independence? Guilty for not being there enough – how will I bond with them? Truly – none of us have it exactly right, and you could list pros and cons of any of the approaches here. The point is, each of us felt guilty, despite making the choices that were right for our own families at the time. And, spoiler alert, all our kids are doing great, 9 years on. So, the next time you’re feeling guilty – I’m inviting you to give yourself some compassion. You’re doing your best! Big love ❤️ Kirsten xxx Kirsten Smith Coach | Trainer | Retreat Leader |

What's your purpose? I’ve been thinking a lot about my purpose in life lately. I’ll tell you about mine in a sec, but first, why is it even important? You might have noticed this basic fact – with your friends, kids/partner if you have them, colleagues, employees – if someone knows why they are doing something, they’re more likely to do it. In my previous role as an HR consultant and trainer, I used use the example of a factory production line. If you say to an employee “put this bit of metal...
5 ways I avoid burnout Life can be so exhausting, right? Between family commitments, work commitments, general life admin, spiralling costs of everything, perimenopause, the state of the world, and general life and house admin, it’s no wonder almost 30% of women say they’re burned out. I’m going to share my top 5 tips for avoiding burnout – but first, here’s my story. I burned out hard in April 2021. I’d been expecting to leave my HR business in 2020, with Shine already being in my mind as my...
